Ivar’s brings a new seafood restaurant to the Bothell area in Washington state

Ivar’s Restaurants has officially announced that it will be opening a new restaurant in the Bothell area of Washington state this summer. The opening date is currently set for August.

The new location at Canyon Park shopping center will mark Ivar’s 24th seafood restaurant. However, Ivar’s is not new to Bothell. There used to be another location that was closed in 2009.

“We're excited to come back to Bothell, where we always enjoyed a supportive customer base," said Dave Fechter, director of operations for all Ivar's Seafood Bars in a press release. He added that the last location in Bothell was open from 1978 to 2009, but it was closed amid the downtown revitalization construction plans. Now we are back, and look forward serving the Bothell community with our classic fish 'n chips and new menu items.

The new location will feature seating for 94 people, complete with chairs that have Ivar’s famous slogan “Keep Calm” carved into them. There will also be a soup display and a fresh salad and sandwich station. The menu will include classic items such as Ivar’s fish ‘n chips and grilled platters as well as new items such as the grilled salmon BLT, crab cake sandwich, and grilled fish tacos.

Customer Ratings and Reviews

Busy place! But the staff was good! I had to wait 20+ min for my food but they did process 20-30 orders in that time. It was impressive and the staff worked well together! We had a large family order that was to go. The order was correct plenty of sauce and napkins. Oh! the food was delicious! Highly recommend the bread bowl full of chowder! Excellent fish and chips too.

They have a great ceasar salad! The fish and chips were good like usual. They are lightly breaded with soft flakey fish. The kids mac n cheese was weird, strange cheese for my kiddo. Clam chowder is always good. It's creamy and decadent with the right amount clams, potato and veggies.

The chowder is a classic worth getting whenever you are in the area or mood. Bringing out an andes chocolate mint after we ate was a really nice touch. I dont normally think of this place as having great service but they nailed it this morning.

In the mid-west, you don’t get the fresh fish like you get in Seattle. I make a point of getting some of the spicy cajun cod every time I come back for a visit. Nice to see scallops on the menu now, next on my list to try!

The restaurant was clean the fish was quite good the chowder was excellent. I ordered the cod fish and chips. Coming from the south cold water fish is a real treat. The meal was well-prepared and hot. I definitely recommend.

Ivar’s to Open New Restaurant in Bothell, WA - Recipes

We have been going quite regularly to this eatery. They serve just about the most tasty fish and chips in the area. The main attraction is that the fish is extremely fresh and the batter just right. I am also particularly partial to their clam chowder which is excellent. If you are looking for really good Fish & Chips, you can't go wrong going to this chain of restaurants.

Last road stop before heading over Snoqualmie Pass headed east from Seattle on 1-90 we thought one more eating stop, so we chose fish n' chips and prawns n' chips as our last meal on the Seattle side of the mountains so happy we did. Ivar's is just a great place to quench one's seafood craving the fish and seafood are always so fresh, the restaurants are clean, and the clam chowder mmmm mmmm mmmm! A family dining experience or just for 1 or 2 there's a table for you at Ivar's! See ya soon Ivar's staff and thanks once again for your hospitality and excellent food choices, you all continue to keep us coming back and I'll keep asking you all to come to Montana, specifically Great Falls!

Went to Ivar’s with a friend. Had fish and chips and clam chowder. Great pieces of fish and the chowder was savory. Price is right. Fast and friendly service. Special mention Cheri, Amber and Chris. Thank you!

As a long time Bothell resident I patronized the old location before all the construction and finally got around to trying the new place.
The updated decor is well done with a clean open air look. I love the old pictures of the Seattle location.
The fish tacos caught my eye and that was my lunch choice. They were very tasty with just a hint of spice. The fish was perfectly prepared and moist. The taco chips in the center appeared to be an after thought and were a distraction.
Service was marginal. There was only one person who was running the register and delivering the food. She was pleasant but clearly frazzled. I had to walk up to get my order as she just set it down to wait on more patrons. Finally the manager came over to help. This would have been a 5 star experience if overall service was better.

I didn’t know this was fast casual, so my expectations were a bit lofty. Our party ordered fish & chips, fried clams & chips, and grilled halibut platter. My halibut platter was the best meal at the table. It wasn’t over cooked, so it flaked nicely. However, it was a bit salty. The sides of rice and coleslaw were also good. The other meals were good fried fish. This is a good place for reasonably priced fast casual fish.

Monte Villa Farmhouse - Russell's Restaurant & Bar (Bothell, Washington)

Russell’s Restaurant & Bar
3305 Monte Villa Parkway
Bothell, WA 98021
425-486-4072
Breakfast & lunch daily 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dinner Tuesday-Saturday 5 to 10 p.m.

The Monte Villa Farmhouse sits among giant poplars and evergreens in an oasis of privacy amidst the growing population of the North Creek Valley. The Farmhouse and nearby dairy barns, now both refurbished for life in the Technology Corridor, have a long working history in the region.

First homesteaded early in the century, Monte Villa was a dairy farm. The McWhirter family is responsible for giving Monte Villa its name. Monte was a favorite horse whose name not only graces the farm to this day, but whose body was buried under the apple trees to the east of the main house under what is now paved parking near a set of large holly trees. Originally close to 150 acres, the construction of I 405 in the 60's cut the property down to 87 acres. When developed by Quadrant in 1993, the Farmhouse became available on an acre lot when the City of Bothell stipulated in the development agreement with Quadrant that the farmhouse and barns, beloved for decades by so many, be spared in perpetuity from demolition.

The original house, comprising less than half of the structure as it exists today, was built in 1927. The current dining room was the living room, and the wall separating the main stairway from the current living room was the exterior wall. In 1939, owner Lloyd Mitchell remodeled the house, adding the master bedroom, the current living room, and the basement recreation room, (complete with its white pine walls, hemp rope trim, and nautical theme lighting). Mr. Mitchell was involved in the ownership and management of Van De Kamp's bakeries, and supplied them with dairy products from Monte Villa. Photographs of the lush valley pastures full of grazing cows were used for Van De Kamp's advertisements. Mitchell's daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Vern Fortin, continued work on the house in 1967, redecorating and adding on a carport, (now the ballroom), and a covered terrace. The Fortins were involved in founding QFC and Vernell's Candies, (for Vern & Eleanor). The Mitchell/ Fortin families resided at the house until its sale to Quadrant. Waiting only for the Quadrant deal to close, the Arnim family of Edmonds formed a partnership to purchase, enlarge and remodel the house for its current role as a facility for business and social occasions of all kinds. Builder Mike Arnim added a foyer, enlarged the living room, enclosed the carport to form the ballroom, and enclosed the terrace to create the sun porch. All of these changes were undertaken with the approval of the local Bothell Landmarks Preservation Board to ensure that the character and charm of the home remained intact. The event garden to the east of the house was created specifically to accommodate weddings and parties and was planted with specimens from other parts of the property to assure continuity with the existing landscaping.

Iconic Ivar’s Plans to Close Acres of Clams and Salmon House Until Spring 2021

The iconic Pacific Northwest seafood franchise Ivar’s will close its long-standing restaurants Acres of Clams and Salmon House on September 28, and doesn’t plan to open either back up until at least next spring.

In a statement provided to Eater Seattle, the company cited the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the closures, since both full-service restaurants are in tourist-heavy neighborhoods: Acres of Clams sits on Pier 54 downtown, and Salmon House is right by Lake Union in Northlake.

Ivar’s tried to make adjustments for both restaurants during the pandemic to stay afloat. The company reduced expenses, offered expanded delivery services, and introduced new menu items, including a full slate of barbecue offerings. But the efforts weren’t enough, and Acres of Clams and Salmon House have not come close to breaking even this year sales-wise, the company said.

“Without cruise passengers, conventions, tourists, banquets, Sounders, Seahawks, and Mariner fans, and workers in the downtown offices, there are few people eating in our full service restaurants,” said owner Bob Donegan. “We fear when the weather changes and the rains return, we lose outside dining and we won’t have any customers.”

Ivar’s fans can still get the famed fried fish offerings at takeout windows in front of each restaurant, as well as the Ivar’s Mukilteo Landing and the chain’s 17 other fast-casual seafood bars throughout Western Washington, all of which will remain open. The company also said it would open its food booths in local sports venues, such as CenturyLink Field, if fans are allowed to attend games at some point. And the retail chowder operation in Mukilteo will maintain its production.

About 90 employees will be impacted by the changes. “We are working to find spaces for them in our seafood bars, chowder production plant, or providing referrals to other restaurants,” Donegan tells Eater Seattle. “Almost every one has said s/he would like to come back if we reopen in the spring.”

Still, the future is uncertain, and the temporary closures further highlight the challenges all restaurants face in Seattle. Both Acres of Clams and Salmon House have been fixtures of the city’s dining scene for decades (Acres is the 74 year-old flagship of the franchise). While there’s no guarantee conditions will be optimal for reopening either restaurant in 2021, Ivar’s at least has the luxury of time to try to figure things out. In a statement, the company said it was able to “modify” leases with its current landlords, something other restaurants in the city without the resources of such an established name may not be able to do so easily.
