What are the benefits of eating beets

Beets are rich in minerals (especially iron), B vitamins (especially folic acid) and fiber.

It is low in calories and fat, so it is indicated in diets.

Beet root is distinguished by antioxidant and phytochemical compounds, such as polyphenols, flavonoids, saponins, nitrates and betalaine (betacyanins, betaxanthines).

We must know that beet leaves are much richer in antioxidants than the root. Contains vitamin A, vitamin C, carotenoids and flavonoids.

A unique compound, found in abundance in beets is betaine. Studies have shown that it helps lower homocysteine.

Elevated levels of this toxic amino acid can lead to atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease.

Beet & # 8211 antioxidant, hypotensive, anti-inflammatory

Eating beets helps control blood pressure, vascular function, diabetes and cancer.

The hypotensive effect is greater in people with high blood pressure and overweight.

Due to the fact that it improves cerebrovascular blood flow, it can also have benefits in dementia or age-related cognitive decline.

A study published in 2020 in the journal Nutrition and Metabolism showed that betalaine-rich beet juice has a more pronounced anti-inflammatory effect than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Vioxx or Celebrex.

Beet root has a high content of oxalic acid, which promotes the formation of kidney stones. That is why people prone to kidney stones should eat beets with caution.

Crostini with cottage cheese, beets and oranges

My dear ones, today I present you a recipe for croutons with cottage cheese, beets and oranges. Crostini are traditional snacks / appetizers from Italy. They are so versatile that they can be prepared with the simplest ingredients, even the most complicated. For the preparation of some croutons you do not need a specific recipe. All you need is imagination and knowing how to combine some tastes, so that something delicious comes out.

I believe that beets and cheese, regardless of its type (feta, mozzarella, cottage cheese, telemea, ricotta, etc.), can never fail in a preparation. For such croutons I chose to use a creamy cottage cheese, but not bought in a box, ready packed. If you are thinking of making this recipe, buy cow's cheese spread in bulk. It can be found in any supermarket at the windows with other bulk products (sausages, cheeses, etc.). You will notice that there is a difference between a packaged cream cheese and one bought in bulk.

"Cherry on the cake", ie the honey that I put at the end above all the ingredients, was exactly what was needed to complete the taste of these small appetizers. If you want, you can not use honey or use another liquid sweetener (eg agave syrup, maple syrup).

These croutons with cottage cheese, beets and oranges can be served at a festive meal as small appetizers, but can also be eaten for breakfast. They are absolutely delicious and I promise you will like them too!

The preparation method is very simple:
300 gr. creamy cottage cheese
1 baguette (I used a fitness baguette with seeds)
2 oranges
half beetroot
2 tablespoons bee honey (or other liquid sweetener)
Optional: walnut kernel

Clean and cut the beets into smaller cubes and place them on a tray covered with baking paper. Season with a pinch of salt and put the tray in the preheated oven at 180 ° C for 20-25 minutes.

Remove the tray and stir the beet cubes from time to time, being careful not to burn. You can sprinkle them with a little orange or lemon juice in the middle of the cooking time.

Put the cottage cheese in a bowl together with the grated orange peel and mix. (wash the oranges before peeling them),

Remove the white part / orange peel, carefully unwrap the orange slices and place them on a plate.

Cut the bread stick into slices not very thick, but not too thin. If you want the bread slices to be crispier, you can brown them a little in a pan.

After the beet cubes are cooked (they should be soft), it's time to move on to assembly.

Grease the slices of bread with cottage cheese mixed with orange peel, put a few cubes of beets on top of the cheese, and a slice of orange on top. Repeat the operation until you have no more slices of bread.

Place them on a plate / plate, and pour a little honey on top.

These croutons with cottage cheese, beets and orange were very successful, even my brother, who is not used to such combinations of tastes, liked these snacks.

I say it's worth giving them a try. They are very good!

Smoothie with orange, blueberries and beets

Here is an ideal smoothie for cold children. Beetroot contains many healthy carbohydrates. When we are cold, we can't eat much, and beets are a package of energy and vitamins. Oranges, full of vitamin C and blueberries full of antioxidants are also important in fighting colds.

Orange smoothie & # 8211 Orange smoothie

After seeing Edith's green smoothie, I wanted to make an orange version. And since nothing sounds better to me than detox, I also prepared it for Dulce Romania. One more thing, make smoothies from vegetables and fruits to your children, I haven't seen my little ones eating with such appetite even chocolate :)

2 carrots
2 oranges
1/2 file
rose water (optional)

After I cleaned the carrots, I put them in the robot to cut, but they can also be grated.
Peel an orange, grate it and cut it into quarters. The lime is peeled.
All ingredients are placed in the vertical mixer container and mixed.
Try other combinations and if you have a juicer put it to work.

There's nothing more healthy for me than smoothies or freshly squeezed juice. Since I don & # 8217t have a juicer I used unconventional methods, but in the end the outcome counts, no?
Way back, I had a juicer and I made myself once a celery juice, but nothing else, though apples were recommended. It was bitter :)) The freshly squeezed orange juice was like power and health through my veins.

2 carrot
2 oranges
1/2 file
rose water (optional)

Grate the peeled carrots and clean the lime and oranges.
Place the carrots and the cut up citrus in the vertical blender container and blend.
Serve right away.
